Working at Farrow Friends- Why we love to care. Meet our team member Donna.

It's July! A time of year where we often find we're on the look out to expand our team and let those who are currently onboard share a little bit about their experience being part of the team at Farrow Friends.

This week we spoke to Donna, who has been working with our company now for about 3 years and is an integral member of our support team.

What motivated you to come on board and join our team?

I joined Farrow Friends about three years ago now, just after the Covid pandemic had eased and lockdowns had ended. I had spare time while my grandchildren were at school that I wanted to fill with something meaningful where I felt I could make a really positive difference to others.

I really love that Farrow Friends is a family owned business and gives me the opportunity to be a part of someone else's day that they look forward to.

Tell us a bit about yourself outside of Farrow Friends

I'm an incredibly proud mum to my daughter, who works in the RAF and I really love spending time with my grandchildren. I often help with school runs to support my daughter's work commitments and it gives me extra time to spend with the grandchildren that I really value.

My family are my life and I have an amazing husband who I love very much and is really supportive of me and my ambitions. Being a support worker is a very similar dynamic and I think that if you are someone who is really family orientated then this is a job that really supports those values.

What does your job involve at Farrow Friends?

My job involves looking after a really diverse range of people who need help with day to day living. It's my job to help people to stay as independent as they can for as long as they are able and this can involve a large scope of different things.

On some days I will be cleaning, doing laundry loads and putting meals on the side ready as a reminder for someone to make their dinner later in the day, whereas on other days I will be taking someone out for a coffee and conversation. What I do is really varied and no day is the same.

What is your favourite thing about working for Farrow Friends?

I love meeting people and having a chat. Often they will tell me about their lives and what day to day living was like for them growing up as children. Often they lived very different lifestyles to how we are living today, and as someone who grew up in Cornwall and has lived a very different lifestyle myself, It's really lovely to hear the things that people used to do, and how their values have shaped over time.

My job is really rewarding, and I love being a support worker.

Thank you so much Donna for sharing your insight about being part of the Farrow Friends team. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and the amazing things you've achieved during your role with us.
